Before starting the Martin Firm, Sam worked as a Staff Attorney with the Mississippi Senate. In this role, Sam served as Committee Counsel for the following Committees: Insurance, Public Health & Welfare, Medicaid, Technology, Education, and Universities & Colleges. As Committee Counsel, he conducted nationwide policy and legal research and drafted legislation and supporting memoranda for members of each Committee. Additionally, Sam provided counsel to Senators in high-stakes hearings and floor debate, and he feels privileged to have served in this important role in the legislative process.
From enacting new legislative frameworks for education and public health matters to drafting various reforms for
insurance and Medicaid laws, Sam was involved in many major policy changes during his time with the Senate.
Before beginning his work with the Senate, Sam worked in private practice and represented clients in a variety of matters, including workers’ compensation, negligence and other tort claims, insurance contracts, principal-agent relationships, breach of contract, real estate, employment, and other corporate issues. Additionally, Sam counseled government contractors, medical businesses, and insurance entities in corporate governance and federal and state compliance.
Sam graduated from the University of Mississippi School of Law with honors, where he served as a member of the Moot Court Board, Pro Bono Initiative, Dean's Leadership Council, Child Advocacy Clinic, and Space Law Journal.
Sam received his Bachelor of Arts in Public Policy Leadership from the Trent Lott Leadership Institute at the University of Mississippi.
